Gluten Free Diet & Weight Loss
I recommend reading the book, Wheat Belly: Lose the Wheat, Lose the Weight by William Davis MD. There does seem to be a correlation in that the number of people with gluten intolerance and Celiac disease seems to be on the rise. According to David, the genetically modified wheat in America is what is making us fat and sick. As a hypnotherapist, I have often helped people to cut back or eliminate the grains or carbs in their diet with great success. I have also helped clients to stop eating gluten if they so choose. Always, people report feeling less bloated and thinner.
As a person with gluten intolerance for over half my life, my weight remained the same when I finally started eating a GF diet. Living in a rural state, I found it difficult to find good gluten-free products to replace the grains that I no longer ate. I often resorted to rice cake open faced sandwiches for lunch, which is a low-calorie choice. Many times, I ate meat and salads when eating out as the only GF meal option and minus the croutons. Although gluten made me sick to my stomach and kept me unhealthy, I enjoyed staying at a normal weight. Over time, the available over the counter GF products have improved tremendously in texture and taste and too many are made without enough fiber.
According to Jon Ebbert, M.D., Primary Care Internal Medicine, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.,
taking white bread and white potatoes, as well as white rice and white pasta, out of your diet can be helpful for weight loss. Because of the way your body processes these four foods, they can lead to cravings for carbohydrates, also called sugars. By eliminating them, you decrease food cravings, making it easier to eat less and lose weight. He suggested trying this for two weeks and then gradually adding back whole grain versions that have more fiber and are processed slower by the body.
Hypnotherapy can help you to cut back on processed foods, white foods and sugar. Suggestions to eat the colors of the rainbow are extremely effective. Many people report eating more fruits and vegetables while in the Loveland Weight Loss Programs.
